Most people try to avoid public toilets if at all possible but there are some times when you just have to make use of them. At times, it may even be for the purpose of changing a diaper on the fly. If you are a father and have ever tried to do this in a public toilet, you probably know how difficult it can be. Women may have a problem with a screaming child, long lines or awkward changing tables but men have to improvise. After all, most men’s rooms don’t have a table, diaper bin or anything that makes it easy.
What do most men do when they have to change a child’s diaper and they don’t have the conveniences of home? You certainly wouldn’t want to put the baby on the floor of the public toilet but this father had a squatting technique that worked for him. It was awkward and uncomfortable but it got the job done.
Donte Palmer is the dad that is starting the movement, #squatforchange. He is a father of three sons and the owner of the Instagram account, Three Boys One Goal.
“What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist. Clearly, we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him! Let’s fix this problem!” said Palmer.
Some public facilities will have family rooms for any gender but they are not very common. In today’s world, many men are taking care of childcare responsibilities so restricting them by not having the proper facilities seems to be somewhat outdated.
“Changing tables are important in men’s restrooms because fathers deserve the opportunity to be their best,” Palmer said.
The hashtag is gaining steam with fathers across the United States as well as around the world joining in. So far he has raised more than $1400 on his GoFundMe campaign and any excess money will be donated to the National Diaper Bank charity.
