    This
    is certainly among the most historic of hotels. Epochal events,
    including the birth of the League of Nations, were discussed here by
    principal figures. Royalty from all over the world have been guests.

  2. Hay-Adams Hotel

    Constructed
    on the sites of the homes of John Hay and Henry Adams, this elegant
    hotel has carried on the tradition of the finest hospitality. The recent
    restoration is a triumph.

  3. Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

    Opened
    to a huge crowd on the day of Calvin Coolidge’s 1925 presidential
    inauguration, this hotel has been a fixture for politicians – Franklin
    D. Roosevelt wrote his 1933 inaugural address here and J. Edgar Hoover
    had lunch here nearly every day. A classic hotel with complimentary shoe
    shines, and multilingual staff.

  4. The Jefferson

    The
    decorations on the Beaux Arts façade are eye-catchers, and inside are
    displayed prints and documents, including some associated with Thomas
    Jefferson. The hotel is popular with celebrities. It has recently been
    renovated.

  5. St. Regis Hotel

    If
    both Queen Elizabeth II and the Rolling Stones chose to stay here, the
    St. Regis must be doing something right. Calvin Coolidge took part in
    the 1926 opening of this grand hotel, styled after a Renaissance palace
    and appointed with antiques, chandeliers, and fine tapestries.

  6. Hotel W

    The
    historic Hotel Washington is now Hotel W, a prestigious property of
    Starwood Resorts and Hotels. Located next to the White House, many of
    its rooms have views of the White House or the Capitol. Its exceptional
    service continues in a luxurious setting.

  7. Morrison-ClarkInn

    Created
    from two townhouses, this mansion served as the Soldiers, Sailors,
    Marines, and Airmen’s Club for 50 years. Decorative touches remain,
    including four gorgeous mirrors.

  8. Phoenix Park Hotel

    Named
    after the famous park in Dublin, this hotel expresses an Irish theme.
    Built in 1922, the stately Georgian Revival hotel retains an Old World
    flavor.

  9. Henley Park Hotel

    The outside is festooned with gargoyles, and the interior boasts original stained glass. Four-poster beds furnish some rooms.

  10. Churchill Hotel

    Opened as an apartment building in 1906, this grand hotel provides huge, tastefully furnished rooms with panoramic views.

    The
    location is superb and the concierge offers full information on local
    sports, theaters, and events, and can arrange to have a rental bicycle
    delivered. The sports bar is a popular meeting place, and the business

    This
    is Washington D.C.’s only five-star hotel. The spa is renowned, and

    The
    decor at this recently refurbished hotel features original artwork

    South
    of Washington, the Gaylord National is the largest combined hotel and
    convention center on the east coast. The 18-story glass atrium offers
    spectacular views of the Potomac River and Alexandria.

    The
