WHAT THIS MOM SAID AFTER HER 5-YEAR-OLD LOST HER BFF WILL HIT YOU RIGHT IN THE HEART

It’s amazing when a story about kids can also apply to the grownups in the room.

It all started when mother-of-two Allison Kimmey was walking her 5-year old daughter Cambelle out of a birthday party. Her post reads:

“She was inconsolable as we left the party when she said “She has a new best friend now”

Between the tears, I quietly said “I understand that you feel this way, but can I tell you something?”

Sniffling back years : “uh huh”

“We will all have many and different friends as we grow up and find our way. We get older, we like different things, people move away and new ones move in.

It will always be fun to have friends and play with other people, and your family is always here for you. You know that right?”

“Yes mama”

I continued: “But there is one person that you spend every second of the day with. You have sleepovers with her every night. You do her hair, she does your makeup. She dances with you, she does art with you, she swims with you, she giggles with you and she cries with you. Do you know who I am talking about?

“Who, mama?”

“You!

You are the person that you spend the most time with, forever, and it is important to remember that you always have a best friend in yourself.

Above all else, you have to love being around yourself and remember that no matter what is going on, you always have you. Isn’t that exciting?!”

“It is mama”

“Do you like being around yourself?”

“Yes! She’s my favorite!”

When I had this conversation with my daughter it was also a reminder to myself. There’s so many things to achieve and people to compare ourselves to. There’s so many ways in which we can feel we are lacking or not good enough. And there are countless times we put our worth into relationships with others and the love we receive from THEM.

So I ask you today : are you your own best friend?

Have you been taking care of you?

Have you shown up when you needed yourself, when you needed to cry, when you needed to celebrate?

Have you given her tough love when needed and compassion in the hardest times?

Have you told her it’s okay?

Have you loved her enough that she knows she is worthy no matter what?

Self love begins when we make peace with the external and reconnect with the internal.

Show of hands who has a little girl inside of them that needs some love 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Just do you babes!
