When it comes to sex scenes, the film business in Hollywood has seen it everything, from the amusing to the downright obscene. In other words, they’ve seen it all.
Wild sex practices in Hollywood, from Margot Robbie’s “genital room” to a vaginal sponge
Film crews, and even the actors themselves, are often put to the test when they attempt to increase the realism of a scene during production.
Many A-list actors and actresses have let slip bizarre sex information from the sets of their blockbuster films, such as the use of giant prosthetic penises and a genital room.
There are those that go to extreme lengths, providing actors with a “genital chamber” complete with vaginal sponges, giant prosthetic penises, and more.
If you’ve ever been curious about the seediest of Hollywood’s sex-related backstage dealings, you’ve come to the perfect spot.
Read on to learn how they imitated some of the most brazen sex scenes in the business.
- Genital Room
Margot Robbie, who played Wolf of Wall Street’s girlfriend, reportedly discussed the “genital room” on filming.
The stunning Australian who played Naomi Lapaglia in the hit film of 2013 spoke with radio hosts Fitzy and Wippa.
She explained “they have these things called merkins, which is like a wig for genitalia. I remember, for The Wolf Of Wall Street, there was an entire merkin room.”
Continuing, Robbie said that actors and actresses would “walk in and pick one,” adding that the idea attracted her.
- Vagina Sponge
Actress Olivia Colman, who played Queen Anne in the 2018 comedy The Favourite starring Emma Stone, said that she made use of a nontraditional prop while filming.
Colman revealed her behind-the-scenes trick to British talk show presenter Graham Norton.
After this, Olivia had everyone laugh again by describing Emma’s surprise at discovering the out-of-place prop.
According to Colman, he “placed a sponge there and said: “I put a sponge there and I said: ‘It’s alright, there’s a barrier, you’ll be fine.’ It was a big wet sponge. She was going up my leg and her face was a picture when she reached it!”
- Prop Penis
Boogie Nights was released in 1997 and stars Mark Whalberg as Dirk Diggler, a busboy who becomes a pornstar.
Whalberg wore a prosthetic penis that was one foot long to play the part, the body part that made the adult film star famous in the first place.
Mark was interviewed about the massive prop on Ellen DeGeneres’ show in 2022.
Mark’s hysterical response to her question of “if it was true” that he still held the prop left everyone in the room in stitches.
As Whalberg put it, “Yes, yes. It’s in a safe, locked away. It’s not something I could leave out. All of a sudden my kids are looking for a spare phone charger and pull that thing out and go: ‘What the heck is this?’ It wouldn’t be a good look!”
- Close to Bare
In an earlier interview, Sarah Silverman discussed the difficulties of filming sex sequences before the advent of intimacy co-ordinators.
Silverman stated that they didn’t give much thought to how at ease the actors would be in the close quarters.
Sarah claimed that during filming for one film, her co-star was so naked that only a pair of panties stood between them.
She said she “ached to walk for days” after their sexytime together.
She reported to The Mirror that “he [was] completely naked except for, not even the thickness of a sock. I can completely feel his boner. He’s not even a real actor, he’s an extra. And he’s smashing me and f***ing the sh** out of me in the scene.”
“I did [put on the pants] but you couldn’t see. It was very violating.”
- Adhesive Problems
According to Dakota Johnson, her modesty was preserved by having her panties glued to her body so that they wouldn’t slip down.
She told Marie Claire about filming in “a type of strapless thong” covered in the sticky stuff.
Johnson confirmed that it “wasn’t glue,” but it “was sticky, like a nipple pastie”.
Although though the chemical adhered to Dakota’s body initially, she admitted that it would eventually fall off, prompting the crew to resort to superglue.
