Scarlett Johansson has admitted that while recording fake orgasm noises, she made her co-star Joaquin Phoenix so uncomfortable that he had to leave the studio.
Scarlett played artificial intelligence Samantha in the 2014 film Her, while Joaquin played lonely writer Theodore who falls in love with his operating system.
However, while filming her own audio parts in a recording studio, Phoenix, who had already filmed his parts on set, found it all too much.
Scarlett explained in a new interview for Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast: “I remember we came in that day. I’ve become that actor that’s like ‘let’s get dirty.’ I have to because otherwise, I’ll be petrified.
“We tried to get through one take, and he was, like, losing it.
“He was, like, angry. He had already [filmed the scene] in person, and now he was with me in this weird theatre and I’m in this box, and he was like, staring at me, and the lights are low, and [director Spike Jonze] is there… it was so bizarre.”
While Scarlett was “fine” during the shoot, her co-star “was not.”
“He was so upset about it,” she said. “He left the studio, and now I’m in this box by myself, and I’m like, ‘I can’t do it alone. I need him to come back’. He needed a break; he took a break, and he came back in.”
The actress revealed her embarrassment while filming the noises: “You don’t want to hear your voice ever. You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having a fake orgasm.
“Ew. It’s so gross,” she giggled.
Scarlett previously revealed the secret to filming’realistic’ sex scenes, telling Us Weekly in 2014: “You have to be totally without judgement.
“It’s sort of liberating. It’s challenging, but you’ve just got to stay in the moment.”
But accepting her sex symbol status hasn’t always been easy for the Hollywood icon.
She said: “[I have] an okay body. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly remarkable, though. I don’t like my thighs, my midsection.
“I never put on a sexy face, so I don’t know what it means to act seductively.”
