Mum warns about fidget spinners after son nearly loses his eye

A mum has warned other parents about the popular fidget spinner toy after her son “nearly lost his eye” while playing with it.

Molly has told Kidspot that she was speaking out so that other parents knew of the dangers of the popular playground toy.

Molly said that her eleven-year-old son Isaac ‘threw the spinner up a little higher and he didn’t manage to catch the spinner but it came down and clipped the corner of his eye and crunch. He was very lucky not to lose his eyesight let alone his eyeball.”

The Austrailian mum said that her son “now has to turn his head to see out of the corner of his eye”.

Fidget spinners are shaped like propellers and have ball bearings that allow them to spin. Kids challenge each other to spin them the longest or show off new tricks.

They have already been banned in some schools, with teachers claiming they are too much of a distraction and one school, the Carroll School in New York saying that they could cause a “serious injury.”
