Court Renames Baby After Forbidding The Parents Chosen Name

A court in France ruled that the parents of a little girl were forbidden from naming their daughter ‘Nutella’ and insisted they change her name.

The baby girl was born in September 2014 and named after the popular hazelnut spread, but once the name was brought to the attention of the town’s court, Nutella’s parents were told they must rename their baby daughter.

Explaining their reasoning for their ruling, the court said: “It went against the child’s interests.”

Elaborating on the decision, officials said: “The name ‘Nutella’ given to the child is the trade name of a spread and it is contrary to the child’s interests to be wearing a name like that that can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts.”

The child’s parents failed to turn up in court in November last year and the judge renamed their daughter ‘Ella’.
